The Rider University College of Continuing Studies keeps addressing students’ needs during the summer.

Among the new features will be the addition of distance learning this summer and a special housing package where students who register for six credits per session will pay only $200 for housing cost. In addition, courses will be offered in three-week format at Westminster Choir College and also for MBA and Master of Accountancy courses.

The registration for summer sessions began on Monday, March 27.

Regarding distance learning, Angela Gonzalez Walker, assistant CCS dean, said, “We noticed that many students want to take courses at Rider during the summer, but they need to return home for a job or to be close to their families. These students ended up taking courses at other colleges or universities close to home. Meeting this need, we are offering six distance learning courses – TV and Radio Communication, Creative Writing, Developmental Psychology, Marketing, New Jersey Politics and Ethics.

“This opportunity benefits both the student and Rider. The student can take courses with the institution they are familiar with while Rider is serving the need of the student,” Walker added.

“The dean of students and vice president for enrollment management also looked closely at summer housing,” she said. “They wanted to encourage students to stay on campus while meeting their academic needs. They designed a package in which students who register for six credits per session pay only $200 for housing cost. This will take away some of the financial cost of taking a summer course on campus versus going back home.”

Last year Enrollment Management launched an interest Web survey to both campuses. The survey allowed students to tell the University what they were looking for in terms of summer offerings. Many of the courses offered this summer are based on these recommendations. “This summer we are offering courses that would allow students to get ahead on their program or repeat a course to boost their GPA,” Walker said.

Other summer features include:

• Daly’s will be open throughout the summer as well as Java City at Sweigart Hall.
• The Recreation Center will be open this summer. This will add to the attraction of staying on campus during the summer.
• CCS will also offer undergraduate business courses at Burlington County College and graduate education courses at Raritan Valley Community College this summer.
