“The Rider News” Wins Six Awards from New Jersey Press Association

| “The Rider News” won six awards last month
from the New Jersey Press Association (NJPA), capturing
First Place in General Excellence. Three hundred and thirty-eight
entries were submitted in January from 21 colleges for NJPA’s
2005 Better College Newspaper Contest. The contest was judged
by active and retired editors, writers and photographers
from newspapers that are members of NJPA. The following
individuals are cited: Executive Editor Cara Latham
(far left), a senior journalism major (Honorable Mention
in Newswriting); reporter Charlie Olsen,
Class of ’05, a journalism major (Honorable Mention
in Enterprise/Investigative Reporting); Managing Editor
Lacey Korevec (seated), a senior English
major (Honorable Mention in Opinion Writing); reporter David
Maccar (not pictured), a senior journalism major
(Third Place in Feature Writing). “The Rider News”
received Third Place for Layout and Design. Bill
Greenwood (second from right), a senior journalism
major, worked on the section that won the layout and design
award. The winners were honored at the NJPA’s spring
conference March 30 at the Trenton Marriott Hotel in Trenton.

Rider Students Win Society of Professional
Journalists Awards

| Mike Caputo, a senior English major,
won a Mark of Excellence in Sports Column Writing;
Caitlyn Berardi, a freshman journalism major and
Al Viciedo (not pictured), a senior biopsychology
major, won Mark of Excellence in Photo Illustration awards
at the Society of Professional Journalists’Mark of
Excellence Luncheon at the Region 1 Conference, March 31-April.
