The annual Winter Weekend 2006 takes place at Rider University Friday, January 27 through Sunday, January 29.

To kick off activities, the movie “Waiting” will be shown Friday in the Bart Luedeke Center (BLC) Theater at 7:30 p.m. That evening, an ice hockey game (Rider vs. St. Joseph's University) will take place at 9:45 p.m. at Lawrenceville Prep in Loucks Ice Center. Starting at 10 p.m., Rider students are invited to a Bronc Buffet – with a Winter Olympic's theme -- at Daly Dining Hall. Free food and t-shirts will be given to the first 150 buffet-goers.

Winter fever sets in early Saturday with a ski trip to Mountain Creek Ski Resort. Buses depart at 7 a.m. in the front of the BLC. Students must sign up in advance. Forty-five spots are available. For those wishing to stay indoors, the Maurer Center will be the place to be at 11 a.m. At that location a Rider vs. Iona swimming and diving competition will take place.

During the evening, the excitement continues with a Rider vs. Columbia wrestling competition at 6 p.m. in Alumni Gymnasium (free t-shirts will be given to first 50 students with Rider ID), the re-showing of “Waiting” at 7:30 p.m. in the BLC, a Rider vs. Lafayette ice hockey game at 9:20 p.m. at Lawrenceville Prep in Loucks Ice Center, and a Cabin Fever Party with music, dancing and food at 10 p.m. in Rider Pub. Free give-aways will take place.

Winter Weekend concludes Sunday with a Rider Rise and Shine Brunch at 11 a.m. in Daly’s and the National Girls & Women in Sports Day featuring Rider’s women’s basketball team vs. Fairfield. The game begins at 2 p.m. in Alumni Gymnasium. Free Women in Sports t-shirts will be given out while supplies last. An ice sculpture exhibition will take place starting at 11:30 a.m. for a couple of hours in front of Daly’s. The weekend will culminate that day with a celebration of the Chinese New Year featuring Asian cuisine from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in Daly’s.

“We are excited to welcome our students back to a variety of winter opportunities,” said Bridget Weikel, assistant director of campus activities and recreation programs. “Various student organizations are supporting the weekend with ski trips, late night programming, and athletic events. We look forward to seeing students all winter weekend long.”
