Rider faculty and academic and student affairs administrators will examine critical issues in higher education at Rider on Thursday, May 19 during the seventh annual Faculty Development Day.

The day begins at 8 a.m. with registration and continental breakfast in the lobby of The Yvonne Theater. At 8:30, Dr. Saundra McGuire, director of the Center for Academic Success, adjunct professor of chemistry and associate dean of the University College at Louisiana State University, will open the day's programming with the keynote address, "Teaching to Develop Expert Learners."

After the plenary session, several concurrent sessions will take place throughout the day featuring such topics as "Practical Approaches to Improving Student Learning Through Program Assessment," "Off the Bench and onto the Field: Helping Novices Get and Stay in the Game," and "Enhancing Classroom Active Learning and Group Leadership Qualities." The day will close at 4 p.m. with a brief session addressing "Teaching and Learning at Rider: The Present and Planned Future" given by Dr. Phyllis Frakt, vice president for academic affairs and provost, and other discussants. This session will be followed by a wine and cheese reception hosted by Dr. Frakt.
