Softball Players Honored

Nine members of the Rider University softball team were honored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, and sophomore Heather Beintema was named the MAAC Pitcher of the Year.
      Honored along with Beintema on the All-MAAC first team were senior outfielders Amanda Tu and Courtney Weed.
      On the All-MAAC second team were junior Maddy Boulden and senior second baseman Brandey Weed.
      Beintema (20-5) leads the MAAC in earned run average (0.85) and strikeouts (220) and ranks nationally in e.r.a. (16th) and strikeouts per game (20th). The MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, Beintema was 8-3 vs. MAAC teams this year while setting a new Rider record for strikeouts in a season.
      Tu leads the MAAC in home runs (10), currently leads Rider and is fifth in the MAAC in batting average (.347), leads Rider in slugging percentage and is fourth in the MAAC in RBI (28).  This year Tu batted .391 vs. MAAC pitching with 18 hits (four home runs) in 16 games.
      C. Weed is second in the MAAC in hits (55) and third in runs scored (31), while B. Weed is second in the MAAC in doubles (13) and is third in the MAAC in triples (5). Boulden is second on the team in RBI (23) and had 11 RBI in 16 MAAC games. 
      Named to the MAAC All-Academic softball team were seniors Devin Karcesky and Melissa Dill, junior Erin McGlynn, and sophomores Jill Carrabus and Anna Jasicki.
