Scholarly Activities

  • Dr. John Baer, professor of undergraduate education, authored or co-authored the following recently published journal articles:  "Racial and Gender Differences in Creativity as Measured by Ratings of Three Writing Tasks" (Journal of Creative Behavior); "The Perils of Defying the Crowd" (High Ability Studies); "What Do In-Service and Pre-Service Teachers Think Elementary Teachers Need to Know?" (Focus on Education); and "Extension of the Consensual Assessment Technique to Nonparallel Creative Products" (Creativity Research Journal).  In addition, he co-authored the chapter, "Hawking’s Haiku, Madonna’s Math" for the American Psychological Association publication Creativity: From Potential to Realization and authored or co-authored the following papers presented recently at national conferences: Higher-Achieving Students Prefer Lectures: Aptitude-Treatment Interactions in College Classrooms (International Conference on College Teaching and Learning); How Do Online Students Perceive Their Course Community? (Sloan-C International Conference on Asynchronous Learning); and Examining Creativity Self-Assessments Across Different Domains by Gender and Ethnicity (American Educational Research Association).  He recently joined the editorial board of The Korean Journal of Thinking & Problem Solving and is guest editing a special issue of the Creativity Research Journal, "A Tribute to E. Paul Torrance."
  • Jean Falvo, coordinator of experiential learning in Career Services, served as a panelist at the New Jersey Association of Mental Health Agencies Conference in Long Branch, NJ, on April 29.  The topic was "Improving Communications with Institutions of Higher Education."
  • Dr. Dominick Finello, professor of foreign languages and literatures, gave lectures in Barcelona and Oviedo, Spain from May 1-9.  The Oviedo lecture is especially noteworthy because it kicks off a full-year celebration of the 400th anniversary of the publication of Don Quixote.  The University of Oviedo is involved in a consortium that gives doctoral courses on Cervantes. 
  • Dr. Maria H. Sanchez, assistant professor of accounting, has an article in the June 2004 issue of Journal of Forensic Accounting, titled "A Forensic Accountant as an Expert Witness in a Criminal Prosecution." The article is co-authored with Dr. Janet Trewin of Drexel University. In addition, Dr. Sanchez presented a paper on her current research, "Negotiations Between Auditors and their Clients Over Booking Proposed Adjustments: The Rule of Reciprocity" on April 17 at the American Accounting Association Mid-Atlantic Regional Meeting in Washington, D.C. The paper is co-authored with Dr. Christopher Agoglia of Drexel University and Dr. Richard Hatfield of the University of Texas at San Antonio.
