Men's and Women's Basketball Seasons End in Albany

Despite 22 points by junior Jerry Johnson the Rider basketball season came to an end in the quarter-final round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship tournament Saturday, losing in overtime, 79-69 to Saint Peter's.
      It marked the third consecutive season that Rider (17-14) lost in overtime in the MAAC playoffs, and the seventh consecutive year that Rider has failed to reach the MAAC semi-finals.
      Saint Peter's scored the first seven points of overtime.
      Rider junior Armel Minyem made two foul shots to tie the score at 64-64 but missed a 10-foot shot at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. Sophomore Edwin Muniz compiled 17 points and nine rebounds for Rider.
      Johnson scored 31 points to lead Rider to a 75-67 victory over Loyola in the first round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship tournament Friday. With the score tied at 57-57 with 4:51 left to play, Rider out-scored Loyola 10-2, six points by Johnson, to take a 67-59 lead with 2:00 remaining. Johnson added four assists.
      Loyola led 53-48 with 8:14 left to play before Rider went on a 9-2 run, capped by a driving lay up by junior Andre Pereira to give Rider a 57-55 lead. Pereira finished with eight points and five rebounds.
      Loyola jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Loyola led 32-27 with 2:53 left in the first half before the Broncs went on a 7-0 run, four points by Johnson, to take a 34-32 lead at half time.
      The Rider University women's basketball season game to an end in the first round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship Tournament, losing 79-65 to Loyola at the Pepsi Arena Thursday afternoon.
      Rider (5-23) lost despite 22 points and eight rebounds by junior Leanne Moore, a third team All-MAAC selection.
      The loss was the final game for 15-year Rider head coach Eldon Price, who is retiring after 35 years of college coaching.
      Rider led 16-15 before Loyola went on a 15-6 run to take a 30-22 lead, and the Greyhounds led 36-29 at half time.
