Lackie Named NJ Librarian of the Year

Robert J. Lackie, an assistant professor-librarian at Rider University, has been named Librarian of the Year by the New Jersey Library Association (NJLA).
Lackie was honored April 20 with an NJLA plaque, watch and lapel pin at the spring NJLA Conference at the Ocean Place Resort & Spa Conference Center in Long Branch.
According to the NJLA’s honors and awards committee, the Librarian of the Year distinction was created to recognize exemplary recent achievement by a working New Jersey librarian.  The honoree is one who enhances the image of librarianship and advances the positive visibility of libraries to the community. That chosen individual serves as an enthusiastic spokesperson for librarianship and as a speaker at NJLA conferences.
Lackie was chosen for having made a significant contribution to the field which has included demonstrating the value of libraries, promoting an accessible and positive climate, advancing community relations, and initiating a new library service or program.
At Rider, Lackie’s myriad responsibilities include co-leading the Moore Library Instruction Program, helping to manage the reference desk, and assisting faculty, staff and students one-on-one in their research efforts.  In addition, he assists in library collection development as the Acting Reference Collection Development Librarian, performs liaison duties for the biology, chemistry/physics, mathematics and undergraduate & graduate education departments and has served as Rider’s first Faculty-in-Residence from 1998-2002.
While at Rider, he has co-organized, planned and conducted dozens of New Jersey statewide librarian programs on e-classroom teaching tips & techniques, advanced Web searching, and effective library database training, to name just a few.  For NJLA and other library organizations around New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, he has presented many seminars for students and teachers.  His initiatives have included designing and implementing interactive web-based workshops for teachers and librarians, among them, Sci-Math World and Those Dark Hiding Places: The Invisible Web Revealed.
Lackie is a trainer/evaluator for the New Jersey Train-the-Trainer Group and the programs co-vice president for the Trenton Area Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa International: The Professional Association for Educators.
