New Bronc ID Cards Provide Added Security
Rider University will issue new ID cards to all faculty,
staff, and students beginning this summer. The new cards will no longer
use the social security number as the ID number. Instead, the new user
ID will be a "Bronc ID", an individual's own identification
specific to Rider University.
"The whole idea is to eliminate the
use of an individual's social security number which will greatly reduce
the risk of identity theft," said Stephanie Polak, associate
director of residence life. "In addition, I'm excited that each student,
faculty and staff will now have their own unique 'Bronc ID' number, which
will be printed on the ID card and used everywhere the social security
number was previously used."
Also, there is a redesign of the new Bronc
ID with several options already being considered. Polak noted that to
ease the transition, photos on the new Bronc ID will be re-issued from
existing cards for all current students, faculty and staff.
The new Bronc ID cards will be issued to
faculty and staff during the summer, and students will receive their new
cards when they return to campus for the fall semester. According to Polak,
the plan is to have the nuts and bolts of distribution the new cards sent
out in e-mail and posted on the Web site a few weeks before the old cards
become ineffective.
This will ensure that everyone has the
opportunity to obtain their new cards before the old ones cease to operate.
"We will do everything possible to make this an easy transition,"
Polak said. "We will make every effort to ensure there is no disruption
of service to anyone."
