Mozart is Topic of Music Box Lecture

Dr. Scott Burnham, professor of music and chair of the music department at Princeton University, will present his lecture “On the Beautiful in Mozart,” on Wednesday, April 30 at noon in the Rider University Student Center Theater. His lecture is part of Rider’s Music Box Lecture Series.
Burnham is author of Beethoven Hero (Princeton, 1995), translator of A.B. Marx’s Musical Form in the Age of Beethoven (Cambridge, 1997), and co-editor of Beethoven and His World (Princeton, 2000). His more recent writings include “Schubert and the Sound of Memory,” (Musical Quarterly 2001) and “On the Beautiful in Mozart,” an article which will be published in Music and the Aesthetics of Modernity (forthcoming).
“The goal of the Music Box Series is to present material that will be of interest to the general music lover at Rider and in the community,” said Stephen Allen, instructor of fine arts and series’ coordinator. “The lectures are designed to open new windows on the musical experience, introducing both the layman and the student to a deeper appreciation of what happens in a particular musical event.”
