Rider Wins Datatel Users’
Group Award for Innovation
Rider University received the 2003 Datatel Users’
Group Award for Innovation on March 11 for its submission of XLIST
and You: Perfect Together. Sue Stefanick, registrar at Rider,
and Steve Kneizys, senior system administrator at The American College
in Bryn Mawr, PA, gave the presentation at the annual Datatel Users’
Group Conference in Washington, D.C.
For its efforts, Rider OIT team members
received a trophy and $1,000, which will be earmarked toward a scholarship
for a student majoring in computer sciences at Rider.
The Datatel Users’ Group provides
the opportunity for Datatel clients to share ideas, network, and develop
their professional skills. Each year, one institution wins the Datatel
Users’ Group Award for Innovation. This award was established
by the Users’ Group as a means to recognize Datatel institutions
using innovative methods in the implementation and use of the Datatel
Colleague and Benefactor software.
Rider’s XLIST reporting tool was
initially developed by Kneizys while he was a member of the Office
of Information Technology (OIT) programming staff to enhance Datatel
reporting and query capabilities. XLIST is a reporting package for
Datatel Unidata clients that allows end users to access data in an
easy and effective manner. In addition, XLIST provides end users with
tools that improve customer service through information management.
Kneizys, who was formerly employed as
a senior programmer analyst for OIT, Stefanick, and several OIT staff
members worked closely as a team to make this unique reporting tool
possible. “Rider was the only institution this year to receive
this prestigious award and that’s quite an honor,” said
Stefanick. “We are very happy to be acknowledged in this way
and will continue to look for innovative and creative ways to help
the end user utilize technology more efficiently.”
