Rider Opens Indoor Golf Practice Facility

Neither rain nor sleet nor snow shall keep the Rider University golf team from practicing. Now the players can refine their skills indoors. This week Rider officially opened its new indoor golf practice facility.
It is located in a portion of the Maurer Center's basement, which for many years was used as the rifle range for the ROTC program. Since there is no longer an ROTC program at Rider on campus and the cleaned-up range has not been used in a long time, the site was ideal indoor golf practice.
The facility includes a 1,200-square-foot SofTrak Synthetic Putting Green and nine-hole putting area; two elevated holes; a 580-foot square chipping fringe; four hitting stations; a driving net and driving mats; and a V1 video analyzing system. The V1 system is a television camera, which records the swings of the golfers and compares it to previous swings of that golfer or to professionals. A player could, if he wanted, compare his swing to Tiger Woods.
The facility was built by SofTrak dealer Mike O'Brien of Feasterville, PA, along with Rider Associate Director of Athletics and Head Golf Coach Chet Dalgewicz.
The parents of two Rider golfers - Ralph and Kathy Anderson (Brad Domenico) and Donn and Eileen Winokur (Dan Winokur) - financed the project with a $30,000 gift.
"A vision for the utilization of available space, the hard work of Coach Dalgewicz, combined with the generosity and involvement of the Anderson's and the Winokur's has materialized into a state-of-the-art indoor golf practice facility," said Curt Blake, Rider director of athletics. "Inclement weather will no longer be a factor. The facillity will lend itself well in continuing to attract quality student athletes to the Rider golf program. This has been an exciting concept that came to fruition in a relatively short period of time."
Rider plays its home matches at the Olde York Country Club, which is owned by Ed Eget, an alumnus of the Class of 1975. The Broncs are generally there Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. On Mondays, they usually practice at Greenacres Country Club across the street from Rider's Lawrenceville campus.
