Rider Art Gallery Showcases Artwork of Suzanne Dinger

The paintings and drawings of Suzanne Dinger of Pennington, a liberal studies major in Rider’s College of Continuing Studies, will be featured at the Rider University Art Gallery, this week through Sunday, May 4 in the solo exhibition, “Suzanne Dinger: Senior Thesis.”
The exhibition of 15 paintings and drawings will reflect her overall development and progression as an artist. A short essay will accompany her work. A reception in Dinger’s honor will take place Thursday, May 1 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Gallery.
Harry Naar, professor of fine arts at Rider, has served as Dinger’s mentor and teacher. “Suzanne is not afraid to tackle hard subjects, particularly when it comes to painting human figures in various environments,” said Naar. “In fact, most of her images deal with figures who are moving about or sitting around, shopping, playing pool or relaxing on a back porch. She is a student who is willing to take chances and challenge herself.”
Dinger recently painted a fishing scene for Rider alum Laurence “Lonny” Laurenti Jr. ’69. The commissioned piece captured the camaraderie between Laurenti with his long-time fishing buddies, fellow alums Scott Gordon ’70 and Gerald “Daddy Wags” Wagner ’67. The 20 X 24 acrylic on canvas painting featured the three friends catching a giant trophy fish – a Mako Shark, Yellow Fin Tuna and Blue Marlin – in Laurenti’s boat.
An Andrew J. Rider Scholar, Dinger plans to pursue a master’s degree in fine arts and teach on the college-level one day. “Creating something on canvas is something I will always do,” said Dinger. “Painting is deeply satisfying. It’s part of who I am.”
Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through May 4. An art exhibition, featuring the work of approximately 60 students from a variety of majors, will open Thursday, May 8 and run through early September in the Art Gallery. An opening reception takes place May 8 from 4 to 6 p.m.
