    Achievers

  • Dr. Jeffery Halpern, associate professor of sociology, and Kim Thompson, a senior elementary education/sociology major, have been selected to serve on Congressman Rush Holt’s Higher Education Advisory Committee. Rider President Bart Luedeke is also a member of the committee.
  • Olushola Ijalana, a senior accounting major, has been named “Tutor of the Month.” The award was recently presented to him by Tutoring Services. Ijalana is serving his second year as an accounting tutor. In addition to his achievements as a tutor, the scholar-athlete is a member of the Rider track and field team.
  • On March 13, News 12 New Jersey reporter John Bathke covered a three-way video teleconference at Rider arranged by Dr. Roberta Fiske-Rusciano, adjunct assistant professor of political science. “Can There Be a Just War?” was the topic of discussion among students from Rider, Fairleigh Dickinson University students, and three U.N. Ambassadors from Iran, Egypt and Australia. At Rider, approximately 20 students from Dr. Fiske-Rusciano’s and Dr. Barry Seldes’ two global and multinational studies courses participated. Seldes is professor of political science. The four students featured in the news segment were: Hector Rosa, a sophomore political science/global and multinational studies major; Juan Nunez, a senior political science/fine arts major; Hameeda Sharifi, a global and multinational studies major; and Andrew Stevens, a senior political science major. The discussion was moderated by Ambassador Ahmad Kamal from Pakistan. Ambassador Kamal later conveyed the message that the “participating ambassadors felt this was the most dynamic and engaging university video they have done.” A second Rider/U.N. videoconference is planned for April.
