- Dr. Radharao Chaganti
, professor of business policy and environment; Dr.
Ronald Cook, associate professor of management and human resources; Dr.
Cengiz Haksever, professor of management; and Dr. Candy Brush from Boston
University, won the best conceptual paper award from the national Small
Business Institute Directors Association (SBIDA) conference, for their paper,
"Stakeholder Influence Strategies of Entrepreneurial New Ventures and
Their Value Outcomes."
- Jennifer Szczytkowski
, a junior biopsychology major/health
administration minor, has been named Tutor of the Month by the Education
Enhancement Program's Office of Tutoring Services. Szczytkowski, who
maintains a 3.86 GPA, has served as a supplemental instruction leader for two
semesters for students in BIO 100: Life Science Human Emphasis. As a leader,
she attends the classes, completes required assignments, creates review
materials, and holds two study sessions per week. In addition to tutoring, she
conducts research in the field of psychoneuroimmunology with Dr. Jonathan
Karp, assistant professor of biology, specifically investigating the
effects of stress on the immune system. She is also the manager of Gill Chapel
and coordinates the Midnight Run activities.
- The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Pi Chapter of Trenton presented
Dr. Sigfredo Hernandez, associate professor of marketing and founder of
Rider's Minding Our Business (M.O.B.) program, with the 2001 Dr. Mary
McLeod Bethune Education and Community Service Award on December 1. Pi
chapter member Dr. Mildred Rice Jordan, associate professor of
education at Rider, nominated Dr. Hernandez for the award. Dr. Jordan serves
on the Rider's M.O.B. advisory board. Dr. Hernandez established M.O.B., an
entrepreneurial outreach program for Trenton youth, in 1997.
- In an effort to increase funds in the Gender Studies Refugee Scholarship,
students, enrolled in "Gender, War and Peace," "Leadership
and Community" and "Introduction to Women's Studies," have
to date raised approximately $3,500 through gifts earmarked for the fund and
various fundraising efforts. The scholarship, yet to be awarded, will aid
any woman who has been forced from her native country for fear of physical
harm to herself or a family member. She must reside in the United States,
need financial assistance and be accepted as a student at Rider University.
As part of on-going fundraising activities,
the students organized a pie-throwing contest last fall semester as part of
closing ceremonies for the Latin American Student Organization's (LASO)
Heritage Month celebration. Members of the Rider University community were
invited to throw pies – at $1 per pie -- at two courageous faculty members
– Dr. Bosah Ebo, professor of communication, and Dr. Frank Rusciano,
chairman of the political science department.
