Achievers

  • Dr. Radharao Chaganti, professor of business policy and environment; Dr. Ronald Cook, associate professor of management and human resources; Dr. Cengiz Haksever, professor of management; and Dr. Candy Brush from Boston University, won the best conceptual paper award from the national Small Business Institute Directors Association (SBIDA) conference, for their paper, "Stakeholder Influence Strategies of Entrepreneurial New Ventures and Their Value Outcomes."
  • Jennifer Szczytkowski, a junior biopsychology major/health administration minor, has been named Tutor of the Month by the Education Enhancement Program's Office of Tutoring Services. Szczytkowski, who maintains a 3.86 GPA, has served as a supplemental instruction leader for two semesters for students in BIO 100: Life Science Human Emphasis. As a leader, she attends the classes, completes required assignments, creates review materials, and holds two study sessions per week. In addition to tutoring, she conducts research in the field of psychoneuroimmunology with Dr. Jonathan Karp, assistant professor of biology, specifically investigating the effects of stress on the immune system. She is also the manager of Gill Chapel and coordinates the Midnight Run activities.
  • The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Pi Chapter of Trenton presented Dr. Sigfredo Hernandez, associate professor of marketing and founder of Rider's Minding Our Business (M.O.B.) program, with the 2001 Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Education and Community Service Award on December 1. Pi chapter member Dr. Mildred Rice Jordan, associate professor of education at Rider, nominated Dr. Hernandez for the award. Dr. Jordan serves on the Rider's M.O.B. advisory board. Dr. Hernandez established M.O.B., an entrepreneurial outreach program for Trenton youth, in 1997.
  • In an effort to increase funds in the Gender Studies Refugee Scholarship, students, enrolled in "Gender, War and Peace," "Leadership and Community" and "Introduction to Women's Studies," have to date raised approximately $3,500 through gifts earmarked for the fund and various fundraising efforts. The scholarship, yet to be awarded, will aid any woman who has been forced from her native country for fear of physical harm to herself or a family member. She must reside in the United States, need financial assistance and be accepted as a student at Rider University.
As part of on-going fundraising activities, the students organized a pie-throwing contest last fall semester as part of closing ceremonies for the Latin American Student Organization's (LASO) Heritage Month celebration. Members of the Rider University community were invited to throw pies – at $1 per pie -- at two courageous faculty members – Dr. Bosah Ebo, professor of communication, and Dr. Frank Rusciano, chairman of the political science department.
