Promoting Personal
Responsibility and a Safe Learning Environment
On October 17, Westminster Choir College freshman Justin Warfield,
died tragically, apparently due to substance abuse. The thoughts
and prayers of the entire Rider community continue to be with
Justin’s family.
“As we all know, the misuse of alcohol and drugs on university
campuses is a national problem,” President Mordechai Rozanski
said. “Every day we, and hundreds of other institutions like
us, face the growing challenge of promoting personal responsibility
among our students while also striving to meet our responsibility
to make our campuses as safe
and healthy as possible. At Rider, we have been dealing with our
painful
loss by reaffirming our commitment to doing everything possible
to
educate and protect our students from the dangers of substance
abuse.”
These past few days have revealed how truly caring Rider is as
a community, a fact eloquently captured by Robert Annis, dean
of the Westminster Choir College, in the following message: http://www.rider.edu/139_12716.htm.
