Sarah Ranney of Scotch Plains, N.J., a junior marketing/advertising
major with a minor in art, has been selected as one of four national
recipients of the 2007 Founder’s Memorial Undergraduate
Scholarship awarded by the Delta Sigma Pi Leadership Foundation,
a not-for-profit organization which supports the educational and
professional endeavors of the International Fraternity of Delta
Sigma Pi, a co-educational professional business fraternity.
Each year, more than 70 collegians are selected
from among hundreds of applicants for undergraduate scholarships.
In addition, graduate fellowships are also awarded to its members
across the country. All financial awards are made possible through
endowed Foundation funds. The scholarship awards are based on
academic achievement, fraternal service, community service, financial
need and letters of recommendation.
“Sarah has boundless energy and an attitude
that anything is possible if you work hard for it,” said
Dr. Alan Wiman, associate professor of marketing and Ranney’s
academic adviser. “She is very deserving of this award due
to her developing professionalism and desire to help others.”
A dean’s list student for the past three
semesters, Ranney holds an overall GPA of 3.5. Active in campus
life, she serves as senior vice president of recruitment for Delta
Sigma Pi and is one of two recipients of Delta Sigma Pi’s
annual alumni scholarships. She is also a member of DAARSTOC,
a professional and interpersonal skill building organization,
and a sister of Alpha Xi Delta, a social sorority.
“I feel very fortunate to be named one of
the recipients of these prestigious scholarships,” said
Ranney, who plans to work in a creative department or in account
management in an advertising agency upon graduation. “The
award money will definitely help lessen the financial strain of
attending college. I plan to one day give back to other college
students in the same manner.”
