Rider Hosts CROP Hunger Walk to Combat Poverty, Catastrophe
Rider University and the Clergy of Lawrence Township
(COLT) will host CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday, September 30, to
raise money for those affected by poverty and catastrophe.
Members of the Rider University community, along with clergy
from Rider, Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church, The Church of Saint
Ann, Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church, Notre Dame High School,
Lawrenceville Prep and Harvest Chapel are among the participants.
Walkers will register at 1:30 p.m. on the steps of Rider’s
Moore Library and start the 6.2-mile walk at 2 p.m.
CWS is responsible for distributing funds to areas that are in
need. It works in partnership with approximately 80 countries
globally, supporting relief efforts such as aiding refugees in
Darfur, Tsunami victims in Indonesia, and rebuilding areas hit
hard by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Schools and health clinics
are supported and agricultural assistance is provided in the world’s
poorest communities.
Walkers are encouraged to solicit donations from the community-at-large.
Donor sign-up sheets are available at Rider’s Campus Ministry
Office in Gill Chapel and the Center for Multicultural Affairs
and Community Service in the Bart Luedeke Center, local churches
and Adath Israel synagogue. Proceeds will be sent directly to
the Church World Service (CWS), the administrative arm of CROP
Hunger Walk. All contributions should be made payable to CWS/CROP.
Payments may be mailed to Campus Ministry, Gill Chapel, 2083 Lawrenceville
Road, Lawrenceville, N.J., 08648.
