• Alumna Nicole Schaefer-McDaniel ’00 (psychology),
authored the book, Children Talk about Their New York City
Neighborhoods – The Role of Subjective and Objective Neighborhood
Evaluations in Understanding Child Health, published in
August 2007 by VDM Verlag Dr. Mueller E.K. Upon graduating from
Rider, Schaefer-McDaniel earned a M.A. in psychology and a Ph.D.
in environmental psychology at the City University of New York.
She is currently a post-doc at the University of Toronto with
the Centre for Research on Inner City Health. Her research interests
include social capital among young people, children’s
rights, housing policies and housing programs for homeless and
low-income individuals, as well as public health-related issues.
