Environmental Science Senior Presents Research at Princeton University

Daniel Hewins, a senior environmental sciences major, presented his paper, “Increased Impervious Area and its Hydrological Impact the Last 50 Years in the Delaware River Basin,” at the Towards an Environmental Balance Symposium on Air Quality, Water Resources and Urban Development in New Jersey on October 27. Organized by Ph.D. students in the environmental engineering and water resources program in the department of civil and environmental engineering at Princeton University, the symposium addressed the question: How can New Jersey develop in an environmentally sound manner? The event took place at Princeton’s Friend Center for Engineering Education.

Rider's AIDS Awareness Quilt Displayed on World AIDS Day

In recognition of World AIDS Day on December 1, Rider’s AIDS Awareness Quilt, created by students, faculty and staff, was on display in the Student Recreation Center (SRC) lobby. Each panel is a personal memorial to someone who has died of AIDS. Standing by the quilt are left to right: Adrina Walker, a master’s degree candidate in organizational leadership; Marinda Erskine, a sophomore English major; Michael Hector, a senior marketing major; Samantha Gallo, a freshman elementary education/psychology major; Josanne Sampson, a master’s degree candidate in organizational leadership; and Joshabel De La Cruz, a sophomore communication major (front center, kneeling with globe).

EOP Distinguished Writers Series Featured Nikki Giovanni

Nikki Giovanni (third from left), a world renowned American poet, essayist, activist and educator whose work influenced many throughout the black arts movement, visited Rider University December 8 and participated in a panel discussion on poetry with several Rider freshmen from the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). The students spoke to Giovanni about her writings, presented original work of their own and discussed how Giovanni’s work influenced their own work. Pictured is Giovanni with a few of the students from Michele D’Angelo-Long and Dr. Jane Rosenbaum’s composition classes. Giovanni was the keynote speaker that evening for The EOP Distinguished Writers Series.
