Rider Junior Interviews Bill Clinton

Nicholas Ballasy, a junior journalism major, managed to pull off the near impossible by interviewing former President Bill Clinton at a recent rally in Bristol, PA, for Patrick Murphy, a candidate for the 8th District Congressional seat in Pennsylvania. This despite major TV news networks in attendance and Ballasy representing the Rider University Network with a cameraman in tow. According to Mercedes Diaz, assistant professor of communication, Nick got the sound bite despite being warned by other reporters that he wouldn't be able to do so. "Nick intrepidly followed a CBS reporter who got close enough to the former president to ask a question," Diaz said. "When the reporter was done, Nick stepped in with his own question and captured Clinton's response on video.
Emerging Leaders Coordinate Midnight MAACness
Members of the Emerging Leaders groups from the Lawrenceville and Westminster campuses worked diligently for several weeks planning Midnight MAACness 'Fright Night' on Friday night, October 13, which marked the official start of the 2006-07 men's and women's basketball seasons at Rider University. The Emerging Leaders, a group made up entirely of freshmen students, worked with the office of campus life, the department of athletics, SGA and SEC to coordinate the event and because of the time, effort and dedication they put into it, the night was a complete success.

"It was a total team effort," said Karin Torchia, associate director of athletics, in reference to the number of different groups that collaborated on the project. "Most of the credit, however, should go to the Emerging Leaders on both campuses as they worked tirelessly over the last several weeks to brainstorm, plan and execute their ideas and make Midnight MAACness 2006 such an overwhelming success."
