Westminster Conservatory's The Actors Company Presents Starting Here, Starting Now September 15 - 16

Westminster Conservatory’s "The Actors Company" will present Starting Here, Starting Now on Friday, September 15 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, September 16 at 3 and 8 p.m. Lyrics are by Richard Maltby, Jr. and music is by David Shire. Directed by Nathan Brewer, it features students Russell Fischer, Kareen Foster and Carly Voigt with Peter Wright on the piano. This classic from the beloved team of Maltby and Shire showcases bring-you-to-your-knees ballads and bring-down-the-house showstoppers. Young love and growing up are themes explored in this bold and engaging musical revue. The performances will be held at The Producer’s Club (Grand Theatre), 358 West 44th Street in New York City. Westminster Conservatory at Nassau Recital on September 21

The first Westminster Conservatory at Nassau series recital will be on Thursday, September 21 at 12:15 p.m. in the Niles Chapel of Nassau Presbyterian Church at 61 Nassau Street in Princeton. The will feature a piano duo by Patricia Landy and Galina Prilutskaya. This half-hour lunchtime recital is free and open to the public.

Rider Art Gallery Exhibit September 21 to October 20

The Rider University Art Gallery will present an exhibit by Alison Weld entitled “Figuration Impulse in Abstraction” from September 21 to October 20. The opening reception is on Thursday, September 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. and the Artist’s Talk will be held on Thursday, September 28 at 7 p.m. The Art Gallery is located in the Bart Luedeke Center on the Lawrenceville campus and admission is free.

The exhibit of works by Alison Weld and a later show by Audrey Flack are part of the Feminist Art Project sponsored by Rutgers University, a national initiative celebrating the Feminist Art Movement and women artists’ impact on contemporary art. Its purpose is to bring public attention to women artists’ significant impact on contemporary art practice, highlighting their international influence, and guaranteeing their inclusion in the cultural record, past, present, and future. Starting in 2006, museums, universities, and other institutions nationally are commemorating historic anniversaries in the American Women's Art Movement of the 1970s, and launching new initiatives that demonstrate the ongoing significance of women's contributions to art. Kaleidoscope Chamber Series Concert on September 30

Westminster Conservatory’s Kaleidoscope Chamber Series presents its first concert of the season on Saturday, September 30 at 8 p.m. in Gill Chapel on the Lawrenceville campus. Entitled “Three Birthdays,” the program will feature the music of Mozart, Shostakovich and Lutyens. This series is dedicated to chamber music of all eras, placing emphasis on repertoire that explores the tone colors made possible when voice and instruments from different musical families - string, woodwind, brass, or keyboard - are combined. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors and are available by calling the Westminster box office at 609-921-2663. Westminster Faculty Recital on October 1

The 2006-2007 season’s first Westminster Faculty Recital will be performed Sunday, October 1 at 3 p.m. in Bristol Chapel on the Westminster campus. Entitled “I Virtuosi del Seicento,” it will feature virtuoso music of the 16th and early 17th centuries by Frescobaldi, Merula, Riccio, Picchi, Fontana, Bassano and de Selma. Performing will be Timothy Urban, recorder and voice; Flora Newberry, cornetto and recorder; David Black, cello; and Gavin Black, harpsichord and organ. Westminster Faculty Recital on October 8

The Westminster Faculty Recital series continues on Sunday, October 8 at 3 p.m. in Bristol Chapel on the Westminster campus. Bass-baritone Mark Moliterno and pianist Richard Pearson Thomas will present Dvorak’s Biblical Songs (in Czech) and Drum Taps by Thomas. Drum Taps is a major song-cycle composed of five songs with texts from Walt Whitman’s poems of the same title. Fuma Sacra Concert on October 8

Fuma Sacra, directed by Andrew Megill, will present works by Schütz including St. Luke Passion on Sunday, October at 8 p.m. in Bristol Chapel.
