The New Jersey Coalition for Inclusive Education (NJCIE) held its Annual Conference, "The Road to Effective Inclusion" in July on Rider's campus. Over 300 educators, including teachers, administrators, and parents participated. The conference was presented by the New Jersey Coalition for Inclusive Education with co-sponsors Rider University, the Haddonfield Public Schools, and The College of New Jersey (DB-FACES project).
Rider University was a co-sponsor for the second year. As in
the past, workshops were presented by experts from around the
United States and New Jersey who have hands-on expertise in research-based
strategies which can support all children in general education
classrooms. Presenters included many national and local experts
in inclusive education, particularly Rider's Dr. Michele
Kamens, associate professor of teacher education, and
Dr. Diane Casale-Giannola, assistant professor
of teacher education.
"This is New Jersey's only statewide conference for educators and families targeted solely on strategies for including children with disabilities in general education settings in their neighborhood schools," said Dr. Kamens. "The goal was to move attendees from where they are now with inclusion to the next point on their journey by providing new information and strategies."
"Once again, a variety of experts in inclusive education came to the Rider campus. Professionals and parents from all over New Jersey had the opportunity to interact in rich discussion about issues related to providing a quality education for students with disabilities."
