World AIDS Day Observance
On World AIDS Day December 1, members of the Rider University
community attended a candlelight ceremony in the Cavalla Room
of the Bart Luedeke Center. Highlights for the evening included
a performance by the Rider dance team, the display of Rider's
AIDS quilt, give-aways and a presentation by Jana Lang, a member
of the New Jersey HIV Community Planning Group.
Seniors Ann Singh, an advertising major, and
Josanne Sampson, a business administration major,
conceptualized the idea of Rider's own AIDS quilt last year. They
were organizers of activities for the second consecutive year
with the support of the Center for Multicultural Affairs and Community
Service and now with Delta Sigma Theta (DST).
During the evening, members of the campus community formed a
human AIDS ribbon to symbolize their commitment to wiping out
the disease. "It was a productive and educational night," said
Singh. "Drawing people into discussion with an AIDS jeopardy game,
the speaker really got people to think about their actions and
the consequences."
The Rider Thanksgiving Spirit
During Rider's annual Thanksgiving celebration, "A Reason to
Celebrate" on November 22, student organization members, athletes,
Sanda University students, faculty and staff donated food items
for a total of 175 baskets that were assembled and collected to
benefit Phoebe's Pantry, Lawrenceville Neighborhood Service Center,
HomeFront, Mill Hill Child and Family Development Center and Masjidut-Taqua.
