It is with deep sadness that the University announces
the passing of Dr. Donald E. Wise, chairperson
of the management sciences department. Dr. Wise passed away suddenly
on Saturday, December 3. Dr. Larry Newman, Dean of the College
of Business Administration who is away in Shanghai until the end
of the month, called Don a good friend and colleague and a beloved
professor. Dr. Newman very much wanted to be here with his faculty
during this tragic time. The University community, along with
Dr. Newman, extends heartfelt sympathy to Dr Wise's family and
colleagues.
Dr. Wise was a valued member of the college of business administration
and the management sciences faculty since 1984 and Department
Chair since 1992. He was a dedicated professor and highly regarded
by his students. With his faculty, he developed a unique and highly
respected actuarial science program. He worked with high school
students who showed interest and potential in the Rider program.
He then advised these students throughout their Rider careers
and also maintained strong ties with the industry. As a result,
he often helped place students in actuarial positions. He was
proud of Rider's academic excellence and worked to strengthen
that reputation. He was a charter member of the University Assessment
Committee and served for the past five years as a solid contributor
to this important program.
