Business Student Creates Charitable Project to Aid Peruvian Artisans
Michelle Meszaros, a business administration major, is
marketing the selling of quality made handmade products that are
imported from Peru to help raise money for underemployed Peruvian
artisans who struggle to support themselves and their families.
Her project is sponsored by The Center for Multicultural Affairs
and Community Service.
The products will be sold November 22 and November 29 from 10:30
am to 6 p.m. on the ground floor of the Bart Luedeke Center.
Through Rider’s global internship program this summer, Meszaros
worked with a missionary in Peru to assist with language translation
and student teaching. After working with local artisans she saw
the hardship of poverty and high unemployment. As a result, she
decided to raise money for the artisans. The project that Meszaros
has embarked on will enable her to use the skills she has acquired
in her courses. This semester, she has learned the nuts and bolts
of starting a relief nonprofit organization to support economic
development in underdeveloped countries.
