The Julius and Dorothy Koppelman Holocaust/Genocide Resource Center at Rider University and the Rider Campus Ministry will host its annual Kristallnacht program on Sunday, November 13 at 7 p.m.

The commemoration will be take place in Bristol Chapel at Westminster Choir College of Rider University, located 101 Walnut Lane in Princeton. Free and open to the public, the program will feature musical selections by The Westminster Conservatory Youth Chorale under the direction of Dr. Frank Abrahams, conductor. Lindsey Weisbrot, a freshman elementary education/communication major at Rider, will speak about her family's experiences during the Holcaust. Refreshments will be served.

Kristallnacht commemorates the night of November 9, 1938, when the Nazi SS incited mobs to attack Jewish citizens in Germany and Austria. Many see this event as the beginning of the Holocaust.

Sponsoring remembrance programs is an important aspect of the Center's programming, according to Dr. Marvin Goldstein, co-director of the Koppelman Center at Rider. "Commemorating tragedies such as the Holocaust reminds us of the brutality humans are capable of committing. Bringing people of different traditions together can foster respect and understanding among people. We gather to remember and to commit ourselves to keeping Kristallnacht as well as Kristallnacht type events from happening to others."
