
Rider University’s Center for Reading and Writing got a boost recently when it was awarded a $10,000 grant funded by Verizon’s Check Into Literacy program. The Center for Reading and Writing is an innovative program designed to provide practical experience to graduate students studying to become reading specialists. It was established in 1980 by Dr. Susan Mandel Glazer, professor and coordinator of Reading/Language Arts, who remains the director of the Center. More

Rider Students, Alumni Part of the Family at Johnson & Johnson
For more than 120 years, Johnson & Johnson has steadily grown into one of the most visible business entities in New Jersey, and within its walls, the presence of Rider University graduates is equally apparent. More than 230 Rider alumni busily stride the hallways of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, in areas ranging from health care and consumer products to finance and medical diagnostics, and it’s safe to say that number will continue to increase.

As we continue to read about the state of the nation’s economy, colleges and universities throughout the country are making plans to deal with the potential negative impacts on their campuses. Rider University remains financially strong due to cautious budgeting, solid enrollment and retention, and generous donations from so many of our alumni, parents and friends. Still, Rider is taking prudent and responsible action to prepare for whatever challenges may lie ahead in the 2009-10 academic year. University Celebrates Season of Giving Through Service
With Thanksgiving just days away, and the holidays approaching, the entire Rider community has been spreading the cheer and the spirit of giving through a number of service projects to benefit individuals and families in the local community.
Choirs, Bands to Sing In, Ring In, Sounds of the Season
This holiday season, Rider University will be mixing old traditions with new ones during winter concerts held on the Lawrenceville campus on Monday, December 1, in the Yvonne Theater, and again on Sunday, December 7, in the Yvonne Theater and Gill Chapel. All concerts are free and open to the public.
Student Teachers Learn 'On the Job'
It was John Cotton Dana, a giant of education in the lore of New Jersey, who said, “Who dares to teach must never cease to learn.” For the past two years, a number of Teacher Education students at Rider University have had the opportunity to simultaneously do both while enriching the minds of underprivileged children in Trenton.
