Racial or ethnic prejudice isn’t always packaged as overtly as the Ku Klux Klan. Countless numbers of seemingly tolerant people who genuinely espouse ideals of diversity and inclusion discriminate against others every day without having any idea they do so. This Prejudice Among the Well Intentioned was the topic addressed by Samuel Gaertner, Ph.D., of the University of Delaware at the third annual Marvin W. Goldstein Lecture on Prejudice and Prejudice Reduction on October 28 in the BLC Theater. More


The Rider field hockey team is on a magical ride, one that you would think only comes along about once every decade. But over the past 10 seasons, the Broncs have been a fixture in the Northeast Conference playoffs, and have even reached its title game in all but one. Even by those lofty standards, however, the 2009 edition has a chance to top them all. The top-seeded Broncs begin their quest for the Northeast Conference playoff championship on November 6. More

Ambrose, who studies high ability, which encompasses giftedness, talent, creativity and intelligence through the lenses of multiple disciplines, says it is important to explore the concept from multiple perspectives because larger problems like the collapsing economy or climate change can only be solved by experts from various fields working together.   • Rider University Veterans Association Founded, Plans Veterans Day Event
    From its very beginning, Rider has been an institution responsive to the needs of those who have proudly served in the United States military, and today is an active participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program. Now, with approximately 50 Rider students attending the University through veterans’ benefits, and anticipating an increase in ex-military matriculants, a group of some 20 faculty, staff members and students have formed the Rider University Veterans Association, which will host its first event on Veterans Day, November 11.
  • Learning Fraud from a Fraudster
    The prices at the one-time consumer electronics retailer Crazy Eddie may have been “insaaaaane!” but the get-rich scheme concocted by owner “Crazy” Eddie Antar and his family associates was actually a surprisingly sophisticated plan to defraud the government and investors out of millions of dollars. Sam E. Antar, the former CFO of the Brooklyn-based chain, shared Crazy Eddie’s story with Rider Accounting students during a candid talk on October 27 in the Mercer Room. Antar’s appearance was sponsored by Rider’s Center for Business Forensics.
  • Rider to Host International Week
    Rider University will celebrate the global cultures and diverse backgrounds of its community members during International Week 2009 from November 9 through November 13. This year’s activities will represent various organizations and departments from the University, including Global Studies, Service Learning and Campus Life, explained Dave Keenan director of Campus Life and Recreation Programs.
  • Booker to Students: Seize Opportunities
    Newark Mayor Cory Booker told the story of how a visit to the city’s Brick Towers housing project helped launch his political career to students on Rider’s Lawrenceville campus on Monday, October 26, in an appearance hosted by the University Democrats and Yes We Can 2.0. Booker shared his experiences and the importance of student involvement in the political arena, and talked about the 2009 gubernatorial race.
    • Flanagan Says Get Better, Not Bitter
    • Veteran television and film actor Markus Flanagan spoke to Theater, Musical Theater and Westminster Choir College students about the often confusing path performers face in carving out a career on Thursday, October 22, in the Yvonne Theater. Flanagan, whose book, One Less Bitter Actor: The Actor’s Survival Guide, has been called required reading by members of the Screen Actors Guild, had his appearance sponsored by the Office of Career Services and the School of Fine and Performing Arts.
    • Clarida Muscles in on World Championship
    • As an undergraduate, Shaun Clarida ’05 was a member of the Broncs varsity wrestling program, but is now working toward a second world bodybuilding championship, his first as a professional. Clarida will be in New York City on November 14 to compete in the 2009 World Natural Bodybuilding Federation’s Pro Natural Nature’s Best World Championships. In 2007, he placed second at this tournament and third last year. “This is the biggest show of the year,” Clarida said.
