Rider – The First 99 Years, one of the largest exhibits in Rider University’s history, opened on September 17 at the Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie Mansion in Cadwalader Park. The exhibit, created by Robert Congleton, chair of Franklin F. Moore Library, and Julia Telonidis, archives specialist, celebrates the institution’s early beginnings in Trenton. “Rider was in Trenton and Trenton was in Rider,” said Dr. Walter Brower ’48, professor emeritus, at the opening reception. “It was a wonderful relationship.” More


While her teammates on Rider’s field hockey team were juggling their time between practice and their studies, midfield/forward Virginia Egusquiza faced another challenge during her freshman year on campus. Egusquiza, now a sophomore International Business and Business Administration dual major from Getxo, Spain, had studied Spanish, Basque and English since she was a young student, but she said she still needed to adjust to the English language because of the prevalent American accent. Like many college graduates, Annie Pasqua describes her undergraduate years as a transformative experience. In Pasqua’s case, one program in particular challenged her to step out of her comfort zone and make a difference. As a freshman at Lees McRae College in North Carolina, the Tennessee native joined the Bonner Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by Bertram and Corella Bonner that strives to promote community involvement in students across the country. Dr. Sylvia Bulgar, professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Teacher Education, was invited by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to travel to Washington, D.C., in order to serve on the National Selection Committee, which will select the recipients of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in the Mathematics and Science Teaching. More

  • Board of Trustees Elects Three New Members
    Three Rider University alumni who became leading executives in business and finance have been elected to the Rider Board of Trustees. President Mordechai Rozanski recently announced the selection of former Board Chair Gary Shapiro ’72 and Board member Michael Kennedy ’72, ’75, who are joined by first-time appointee Will Stephens ’75, to serve three-year terms on the Board.

  • 25th Annual Golf Gala Photo Gallery
    The 25th Annual Rider University Golf Gala was held on September 14 at Olde York Country Club in Columbus, N.J. The Rider Athletics Golf Gala originated in 1985 as a means to increase support for Rider Athletics, its programs and, most of all, its student-athletes. Since the Gala’s inception, many improvements have been made in the areas of information technology, facilities, equipment, team travel, uniforms, team rooms and more.

  • Curtain Rises on Green Film Series
    The Energy and Sustainability Steering Committee (ESSC) of Rider University will mark the debut of its Green Film Series with a screening of the Sundance Award-winning movie FUEL on Tuesday, September 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Bart Luedeke Center Theater. The Green Film Series is the first year-long educational series sponsored by the ESSC, according to Melissa Greenberg, sustainability coordination manager.

  • The Road to Trenton Leads Through Rider
    Rider’s Lawrenceville campus is a mere five miles from the New Jersey State House, but when the Garden State’s next governor takes the oath of office in January, he might recall that his path took him straight through the Bart Luedeke Center Theater. The Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics of Rider University hosted all three major candidates in the state’s gubernatorial race over the course of one week this month through its inaugural Governing New Jersey series.

    Westminster Honored for Excellence in Church Music
    Westminster College of the Arts of Rider University was recently recognized at the 75th annual Charles H. Flax Memorial Concert during the Ministers’ Conference and Choir Directors’ Organists’ Guild Workshop at Hampton University in Virginia. Evelyn Thomas, director of academic support services and coordinator of the Educational Opportunity Program at Westminster Choir College, attended the conference where Westminster received the Charles H. Flax Award of Excellence in Church Music.

    • Center for Reading and Writing Keeps Rolling On
    • To say that the Center for Reading and Writing at Rider University has had a dramatic effect on thousands of Mercer County-area students would be entirely true, albeit equally understated. Using the program she developed, Dr. Susan Mandel Glazer employs a teaching strategy and philosophy that has proven just as effective in Finland as it has in Lawrenceville.

    • Westminster Faculty Recital Series Presents Salons, Cafés and Cabaret
    • Pianist Eric Hung and mezzo-soprano Amy Hartsough will perform café and cabaret songs sung in Paris, Berlin and Shanghai from the 1900s to the 1930s on Wednesday, October 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Bristol Chapel on the campus of Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton. Admission is free.
