
Three faculty
members took distinctly different paths, but all ended up in Rider
University’s School of Education. Now these men are leaving
a trail of distinction, merit and memories as they step down from
their posts. Dr. Dennis Buss, department chair of Graduate Education,
Leadership and Counseling will retire on June 30, after 39 years
of service. Dr. Jesse DeEsch, associate professor of Counseling
Services, will retire on June 30, after 34 years of service. David
Oliver, chair of the department of Teacher Education and director
of field placement in the College of Liberal Arts, Education and
Sciences, retired on May 23, after nine years of service. More

Lynch of Oxford, Conn., and Sarah Khatcherian of Princeton, N.J.,
both recent Rider graduates, were accepted into the Fulbright U.S.
Student Program, which presents highly competitive grants to undergraduate
students and graduate students. More

After 38
years at Rider University, Dr. Mark Sandberg is ready to make his
next move, and he’s got plans. In fact, you can say they are set
in stone. “I really want to learn Spanish, so I’ve already signed
up for the RosettaStone program offered by Rider,” said Sandberg,
an associate professor of Management and the dean emeritus of the
College of Business Administration who will officially retire on
June 30. More
Dr. Sylvia
Bulgar, associate professor of Teacher Education, had her article
Designing Opportunities for All Students to Demonstrate Mathematical
Prowess selected for inclusion in the monograph Creativity,
Giftedness, and Talent Development in Mathematics. In the article,
Bulgar discusses how students of average academic abilities can
be supported to exhibit characteristics typically shown by gifted
students.

After claiming its first-ever victory in the Metro Atlantic Athletic
Conference Baseball Championship, the Rider University baseball
team will head to Fullerton, Ca., to play the host school, Cal State-Fullerton,
in the NCAA Regional Tournament on Friday, May 30.

Ready for Reunion Weekend?
More than 1,000 Rider University alumni are expected to converge
upon the Lawrenceville campus for Reunion Weekend on Friday, June
13, and Saturday, June 14, to reconnect with friends and fellow
alums, honor distinguished graduates, and enjoy dozens of fun
events, great music and delicious food.

of the Town
Talented people are Rider University’s greatest competitive
asset, along with high-quality academic and support programs and
constantly improving facilities, as the institution advances under
its Strategic Plan. This was the key message presented by President
Mordechai Rozanski at the Town Hall Meeting he hosted on April 30.
Promotion
and Tenure Cases Announced
The Spring 2008 promotion and tenure cases were recently announced
by Dr. Donald Steven, provost and vice president for Academic
Affairs. Twenty members of Rider University’s faculty and
Athletics staff earned promotions, and seven were granted tenure
as well.

Visiting
Students Shake Up Shakespeare
Chris Reed, a senior at Cumberland Regional High School, had the
chance to shine at his soon-to-be new performance venue. Reed,
who will be a freshman at Rider University in the fall as an acting
scholar, performed an abridged version, along with his classmates,
of William Shakespeare's As You Like It in the Yvonne
Theater on the Lawrenceville campus.
Give Women's Athletics a Run (or Walk) for Its Money
On a day that will see more than 1,000 alumni arrive at the Lawrenceville campus through various methods of transportation to attend Reunion Weekend, it'll be good old fashioned walking and running that plays the most pivotal role in raising funds for Rider University's female student-athletes through the 5K Walk/Run for Women's Athletics on Saturday, June 14.
