Rider senior Doug Umbehauer earned All-America honors at the 79th annual NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, finishing third. Umbehauer won five of six bouts at the nationals, including his final two on Saturday. The 184-pounder is Rider’s 13th wrestling All-American, the second in the last three years, and the third Bronc to finish a Rider-best third in the nation. Umbehauer finished third behind a pair of wrestlers who were both former national champions. More



After eight years of cheerleading competitions, Heather Fischler decided as a high school student to try her hand at another sport – acrobatics, which combined her love for cheerleading and dance. While she no longer cheers, Fischler still exhibits pride and passion in everything she does. In fact, she is one of Rider’s biggest cheerleaders, which is why she will bring the American Cancer Society Relay for Life to the Lawrenceville campus on Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29. More


Pick up the phone and give the defending World Series champions a call, and the first three words you’ll hear from a cheerful receptionist are, “World Champion Phillies!” It’s a fun reminder of how the marketing minds from Philadelphia’s Major League Baseball franchise have eagerly seized the appeal of the team’s recent on-field success. Cognizant of these many behind-the-scenes operations, Dr. Larry Prober launched the Business of Sports elective four years ago to bring the lesson home to Rider’s M.B.A. students. More


Dr. Hernán Fontanet, assistant professor of Spanish, had his new book, Modelo y subversión en la poética de Leónidas Lamborghini, published by Mellen Press. According to the publisher, Lamborghini is one of the most well known, but least studied, contemporaneous Argentinean poets. More

  • Rebovich Institute for NJ Politics Welcomes Mike Huckabee
    The Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics welcomes the Honorable Mike Huckabee on Wednesday, April 1, at 6 p.m. in the Bart Luedeke Center Theater. The former governor of Arkansas and 2008 candidate for the Republican nomination for president, Huckabee will present an address focusing on national politics and policy, as well as the future of the Republican Party. Huckabee will also sign copies of his book, Do the Right Thing: Inside the Movement That’s Bringing Common Sense Back to America.

    When she was a child in Jamaica, her father didn’t see any need for Marilyn Priestley ’74 to be in school, but her mother would have none of it. Determined to give her daughter a good education, Priestley’s seamstress mother moved her children to New Jersey and worked hard to provide the basics while her children concerned themselves with learning. Priestley, the vice president for Diversity and Inclusion at Novartis Pharmaceuticals, was the keynote speaker for Women’s History Month at Rider on March 9.

  • CBA Expands Global Presence with Two Partnerships in France
    The College of Business Administration recently signed agreements with two institutions of higher education in France. Under the partnerships, fourth-year students from The American Business School in Paris and CEFAM (Centre d’études Franco americain de management) in Lyon, will be able to receive dual undergraduate degrees from Rider and their primary institutions. “These partnerships should really expand our international presence. It’s very exciting,” said Dr. Larry Newman, dean of the CBA. “Our vision is to build these partnerships around the world.”

  • Help Protect Yourself at Identity Theft Seminar
    Rider University’s Center for Business Forensics will host a free interactive seminar focusing on the major issues surrounding identity theft and fraud on Wednesday, April 1, at 7 p.m. in the Science and Technology Center Room 102. The event will feature a panel of experts from law enforcement, banking and health care. Panelists will discuss identity theft and its forms; who is at risk; ways to protect yourself from identity theft; and the steps that should be taken if you are a victim of identity theft.
  • HerStory Feminist Literary Journal Set to Debut March 25
  • The premiere of the first edition of HerStory, a new feminist literary journal created by Rider students, will be held on Wednesday, March 25, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Bart Luedeke Center Fireside Lounge. Through a mixture of fiction, nonfiction, visual art, photography, interviews, plays, poetry and prose, the journal aims to present contemporary feminist issues, while inspiring and uniting female students. HerStory received more than 70 submissions. Twenty-six pieces were selected to be featured in the first edition.

  • Rider Gets Fit Through Health, Fitness Initiatives
  • Members of the Rider community are taking advantage of campus programs geared toward a happy and healthy lifestyle. Through a number of health and wellness initiatives, close to 200 participants, including students, faculty and staff, are reaping the benefits of exercise, healthy eating and teamwork. Weight Watchers recently announced that Rider members have lost a total of 1,030.2 pounds in less than a one-year period, while participants in the SRC’s Team Fitness Challenge and Run to Spring Break also met, and often exceeded, their own goals.
