Through the Yellow Ribbon Program, veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces who have served their country for at least three years following 9/11 can earn their bachelor’s or master’s degrees or professional certificate at Rider University tuition-free.

E. Yvonne Baskerville ’74 received the Gordon E. Prichard Award for Volunteer Service, United States Marine Corps Maj. Mark E. Slusher ’90 was given the Harold L. Conover Leadership Award, and Gary Pruden ’83 was presented the Rider University Distinguished Alumnus Award for exceptional professional achievements during the Alumni Awards presentation.

Eldridge Hawkins Jr. ’01 could have started small, but he refused to ignore the call of opportunity and a struggling community’s need for sweeping change. As a result, the 28-year-old political neophyte was elected mayor of Orange, N.J., last year, and immediately put his signature on the city.

For years, Rider’s College of Business Administration has encouraged its students to learn, experience and lead. The College’s Small Business Institute (SBI) has taken the concept of “experience” to heart, giving students valuable familiarity with real-life business situations before they even earn their degrees. The results have been fruitful, as two teams from Rider earned national honors for their work at the Small Business Institute Association’s 33rd Annual National Conference from February 12 to 14 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
