Dr. Maureen Maguire ’75, a top ophthalmologist at the University of Pennsylvania, and Dr. Aaron Gast, trustee emeritus at the Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation, will receive honorary degrees at Rider’s 147th Commencement ceremonies. Dr. Morten Lauridsen, Distinguished Professor of Composition at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, will be similarly honored at the Westminster Choir College ceremony.

Rider alum Charles Haas ’69 has long been mesmerized by the story of the R.M.S. Titanic, the supposedly unsinkable passenger ship that defied that opinion 100 years ago this month. He has spent the past half-century investigating the luxury liner, and his book "Titanic: Triumph and Tragedy" has been called the most comprehensive book available on the subject.

Former New Jersey Gov. James J. Florio spoke at Rider University on March 22 as part of the Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics' 'Governing New Jersey Series.' A U.S. Congressman from 1974 through 1990 who also served three terms in the New Jersey General Assembly, Florio was the inaugural recipient of the Rebovich Institute Citizenship Award, presented in June 2011.
