Meet the 2012-2013 Beta Alpha Psi Officers

The Rider Kappa Epsilon chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, housed in the Accounting department, gives students the opportunity to participate in a variety of professional and community service events, and network with accounting and finance professionals.

Beta Alpha Psi is the national honor society that recognizes excellence in accounting, finance and computer information systems. Under the direction of faculty advisers Dr. Nandini Chandar and Dr. Jia Shen, the Rider Kappa Epsilon chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, housed in the Accounting department, gives students the opportunity to participate in a variety of professional and community service events, and network with accounting and finance professionals. This year’s induction ceremony was held on April 27 and featured the following elected officers for the 2012-13 academic year:

President: Iram Khan

Iram Khan ’12, MAcc ’13, is the event planner for the Accounting department, a member of Accounting Society, a member of Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society, freshmen peer mentor, and an international student mentor. Iram recently received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a concentration in Fraud and Business Forensics at Rider’s Undergraduate Commencement on May 11. Upon graduating with a Master of Accountancy in the spring of 2013, she will start at full-time in KPMG’s Audit practice out of their Princeton office. She also plans to obtain certifications as a CPA, CMA, CFE, and CIA. During her free time, she enjoys reading historical fiction, primarily mysteries and romances. She also volunteers at Riding High Farm, a therapeutic facility for special needs riders. Iram’s favorite quote is, “Live as if you were to die tomorrow, but learn as if you were to live forever.”

Vice President: Anam Khan

Anam Khan ’12, MAcc ’13, is involved in various extracurricular activities and is the student assistant for the Accounting department. Anam chose to come to Rider because of its business program’s well-known reputation. She recently received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting at Rider’s Undergraduate Commencement on May 11 and is pursuing a Master of Accountancy. She plans to obtain certification as a CPA. During her free time, Anam enjoys reading, writing, and sewing. She strongly believes that you should pursue your dreams and desires in life. Anam’s favorite quote is, “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler.”

Secretary:  Cindy Maksimow

Cindy Maksimow ’13, an Accounting major with a concentration in Fraud and Business Forensics, recently traveled to China where she visited Beijing, Xian, and Shanghai through a study tour led by Rider faculty Dr. Shunzhu Wang and Dr. James Castagnera.  She currently works in the Office of the President and for Mercadien as an auditor for New Jersey Lottery drawings. During her time at Rider, Cindy has had the opportunity to participate in the IRS Adrian Project, a mock criminal investigation held on campus, and Rider’s Leadership Development Program. This summer, Cindy is holding an audit internship with Deloitte. Upon completing her undergraduate degree, she plans on pursuing her MAcc degree and passing the CPA exam.

Treasurer:  Jeffrey Thomas

Jeffrey Thomas ’14, an Accounting major and Spanish minor, is a member of the Business Honors Program who works as a tutor for the Rider University Student Success Center and as a sales associate at Five Below. He  is also involved in a variety of clubs and organizations, such as The Rider News, the Accounting Society, the Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honor Fraternity, Residence Hall Association, and the Japanese Pop Culture Society. Jeffrey plans pursue a MAcc degree, obtain a CPA certification, and work in either the audit or tax department in a public accounting firm. His favorite quote is,“By developing a passion for learning, you will never cease growing.”

Internal Public Relations:  Matthew Kepler

Matthew Kepler ’14, an Accounting major and a Business of Sports minor, is an active member in Accounting Society. In the fall semester, he participated in the first Rider Investment Challenge and participated in the Johnson & Johnson University Case Competition. Matthew is a member of Rider SERVES, a community-service organization, and volunteers for the Special Olympics. Outside of the Rider community, Matthew is a part-time travel team soccer coach and he is fitness enthusiast. Upon graduation, he plans to continue his education through Rider’s MAcc program, and also wants to pursue certification as a CPA and work for a mid-sized public accounting firm. His favorite quote is, “If my mind can conceive it, and my heart can believe it — then I can achieve it.”

External Public Relations:  Eurico David

Eurico David ’14, an Accounting major with a concentration in Fraud and Business Forensics, was also recently appointed as treasurer of the Accounting Society. Eurico currently works as a student intern for the City of Perth Amboy, N.J., and is a part-time waiter at Chateau Madrid in Carteret, N.J..  He plans to obtain an internship with a public accounting firm next year. Upon graduation, he will pursue a MAcc degree from Rider, as well as CPA, CMA, CFE and CIA certifications. In his spare time he enjoys playing basketball and soccer, and drawing.  Eurico’s favorite quote is, “Ambition is priceless. It’s something that’s in your veins.”

Community Service Chair:  Theresa Mattera

Theresa Mattera ’13, an Accounting major with a concentration in Fraud and Business Forensics, is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society and the Leadership Development Program. She serves as one of the Public Relations officers for the Accounting Society, is the Internal Controls Facilitator for Rider Runners’ Annual 5K Event, is one of the campus representatives for Roger CPA Review, and works as a Student Clerical Assistant in the College of Business Administration’s Dean Office. Recently, Theresa interned in the tax department with Mercadien. She believes that her experience there allowed her to learn and gain further insight into the public accounting profession. After graduation, she plans to continue her education, pursue a Master of Accountancy from Rider, and obtain certifications as a CPA and CFE. During her free time, Theresa volunteers at the Masonic Home of New Jersey, enjoys reading, writing, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends. Her favorite quote is, “Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit,” by Aristotle.
