Rider University Music Theater students will present four performances of two cabarets Friday, April 29 through Sunday, May 1. Titled It's a Girl! and I Wish...the shows will be performed in the intimacy of the Yvonne Theater’s stage. Trent Blanton is directing both shows. Performances are Friday, April 29 at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 30 at 7 p.m. and midnight and Sunday, May 1 at 2 p.m. Admission is free. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
It's a Girl! features songs that illustrate the different sides of what it's like to be growing up as a young woman today. It includes songs from My Name is Alice, The Wild Party, Spring Awakening and 9 to 5 plus pop and folk songs by such artists as Sara Bareilles, Superchick and folk sensation Eddie from Ohio.
I Wish...uses music and song to transport the audience to their youth. It features songs from such musical theater hits as Peter Pan, Camelot, Man of La Mancha and Cinderella, as well as such contemporary shows as Shrek, Into the Woods and Wonderland.
Both of cabarets also feature new arrangements of tunes like Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Camelot, Neverland, Impossible, Children Will Listen and Freedom.
Trent Blanton is assistant professor of theater. His professional acting credits include Les Miserables, A Christmas Carol, 1776, Fiddler on the Roof, A Christmas Carol, Romeo & Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Merchant of Venice, The Taming of the Shrew and Masada. At Rider he directed Striking 12 earlier this season and Anatomy of Grey last year.
Wendy Feaver is a graduate of the musical theater program at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York. She is currently working towards her Bachelor of Arts in Music Theater and Piano with plans to open her own theater/bed & breakfast/vegan cafe. She has performed in, accompanied and musically directed numerous shows throughout Florida, New York and California including A...Alice, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Anything Goes and The Sound of Music. Alex Harrington has been involved with many shows at Rider including The Drowsy Chaperone, Striking 12, She Loves Me and Rent. He is currently the music assistant for the Broadway production of The Addams Family.
