Walter Moore was born in Berkeley, California (USA) and studied piano at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music as well as musicology at Stanford University. In 1963 he came to Austria with a Fulbright Scholarship and continued his studies at the Vienna Academy of Music. He was engaged there as a coach in 1965 and from 1977 he directed the Preparatory Class for Lied and Oratorio Interpretation. In this field he was promoted to full professor in 1984.
His concert and teaching activity has taken him to most European countries as well as Venezuela, Morocco, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. For twenty years he was assistant to Kms. Hans Hotter for his master classes in Vienna, Grafenegg, Salzburg, Hohenems and Mainz. He has concertized with the singers Ileana Cotrubas, Wolfgang Holzmair, Christine Weidinger, Lúcia Megyesi Schwartz, Adrienne Csengery, Elisabeth Kulman, William Parker, László Polgár and Takao Okamura. In 2009 he became professor emeritus at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
