A native of Virginia, Ms. de Groot’s musicianship expresses itself as a teacher, pianist, and singer. She has taught piano at the Shenandoah Conservatory Arts Academy in Winchester, Virginia, as well as the Community Music School of the Piedmont in Upperville, Virginia.  Anna has taught many private piano students of ages four to adult in the past fifteen years. In the fall of 2011, she also taught a ‘mini-choir’ and was thrilled to be introducing great works to her young students. For six memorable years, Anna was the accompanist and assistant for the five choirs at C.D. Hylton High School in Woodbridge, Virginia, under the direction of Tommy Tutwiler. Since 2009, Anna spends her summers at Interlochen Arts Camp in Interlochen, Michigan, as a collaborative pianist and vocal coach for the Vocal Arts and Operetta Program.  Her summers are spent accompanying Interlochen Singers, the high school women’s choir, directed by Dr. Gregory Ristow. She also teaches a section of the Intermediate Singer Skills class which covers beginning music theory and accompanies the Intermediate Operetta.

For the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Regional Conference in Fairfax, Virginia, Anna has had the wonderful opportunity to accompany the Voices United Children’s Choir under the direction of Mr. John Rutter, Dr. Lynne Gackle, Dr. Patrick Freer, Mr. Henry Leck and Mr. Jim Papoulis. As a guest accompanist, Anna also had the honor to play recurrently for the Prince William All-County Honors Choir and the Virginia District IX Honors Choir giving her the opportunity to collaborate with many choir directors from different music schools in the United States.

Anna received a Bachelors of Music in Piano Performance from James Madison University where she studied with Dr. Eric Ruple and Dr. Gabriel Dobner. Her other piano teachers include Mrs. LaVonne Markham, Ms. Karen Colley, Dr. Edvinas Minkstimas and Ms. Lydia Frumkin.  Anna is now pursuing a double Masters Degree in Piano Accompanying & Vocal Coaching and Piano Pedagogy at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey. When not in classes or rehearsals, Anna has the pleasure of teaching delightful piano students at Westminster Conservatory. On the weekends, Anna accompanies the youth choirs at Princeton United Methodist Church under the direction of Yvonne MacDonald. She currently studies voice with Dr. Sean McCarther, studies accompanying with Dr. JJ Penna and Dalton Baldwin and solo piano with Phyllis Lehrer and William Hobbs.
