High Intermediate Reading/Vocabulary (3 hrs)
This course is designed to prepare students for reading at the college level.  The course emphasizes expanding reading skills using context clues, skimming, scanning, anticipating, simple inferencing and distinguishing fact vs. opinion as well as understanding paragraph structure and identifying main ideas. In addition, students read a variety of materials on familiar and unfamiliar topics.  Students develop comprehension and analyze readings. Vocabulary building focuses on use of context clues, prefixes, suffixes word forms, and word roots.

Advanced Reading/Vocabulary (3 hrs)
This course emphasizes the continued acquisition of reading skills needed for college level courses, expansion of vocabulary, and comprehension and analysis of both adapted and authentic reading selections of varying lengths. Reading skills practice includes using context clues, skimming, scanning, anticipating, simple inferencing, distinguishing fact vs. opinion, and differentiating main ideas from supporting details. In addition, students read both intensively and extensively for comprehension and analysis. Vocabulary building focuses on use of context clues, and expanded study of idioms, prefixes, suffixes, word forms and word roots.

High Intermediate Grammar (3 hrs) 
This course presents high intermediate-level English grammar, its structure and rules of use. The goal of this course is for students to internalize basic and intermediate grammatical rules and structures both in comprehension and production.  Students will practice English grammar with an emphasis on formal English for an academic context through controlled and open-ended oral and written activities. 

Advanced Grammar (3 hrs)
This course presents advanced-level English grammar, its structure and rules of use.  The goal of this course is for students to internalize advanced grammatical rules and structures both in comprehension and production.  This course prepares students to apply formal English in an academic context. Students will practice English in a variety of contexts, especially as it applies to speaking and writing for an academic audience.

High Intermediate Writing (3 hrs)
This course focuses on preparing students for academic writing at the college level using various textbooks, fiction, magazines, newspapers, and student writings. They learn and practice summarizing, paraphrasing, quoting, taking essay exams, citing and documenting sources.  Emphasis is placed on the writing process, with students’ prewriting, peer-editing, and editing. Students move from writing well-organized paragraphs with topic sentences and supporting details to short coherent, well-organized essays and papers.

Advanced Writing (3 hrs)
This course focuses on preparing students for academic writing at the college level. Students write papers that both summarize and analyze academic essays and literature. Students are trained to utilize the broad range of library research data including knowledge of the library database system. Students learn to write academic papers in a variety of genres incorporating research.

High Intermediate Listening/Speaking (3 hrs)
This course is designed to prepare students for listening and speaking at the college level. Students improve their listening comprehension on campus and in the workplace through understanding verbal instructions and questions, and through developing strong note taking skills in academic lecture situations.  Students will participate appropriately in small group discussions, present oral summaries, and give short, structured presentations on academic topics. Students continue to learn appropriate verbal and non-verbal behavior as well as conversation management techniques to exchange ideas in small and large group communication.

Advanced Listening/Speaking (3 hrs)
This course is designed to prepare students for listening and speaking at the college level. Students converse in depth on social and academic topics and participate in academic discussions.  Students practice to strengthen oral communication skills in a variety of social, business and/or academic situations in culturally appropriate ways.  Students will prepare and execute academic presentations in a variety of genres and lengths and incorporate technology.

TOEFL (3 hrs)
This course is designed to prepare students for the iBT TOEFL with skills, strategies, and practice to improve their score using introductory level practice tests and exercises on all sections of the TOEFL. The course focuses on listening, speaking, reading, vocabulary, and integrated skills.

Pronunciation (3 hrs)
This class helps students improve their English pronunciation. Students work on strategies to correctly use American English stress, rhythm, and intonation. Class activities include pronunciation drills, pair and small group practice, and recording their own speech in controlled exercises.  Students will listen to and learn from authentic sounds of varying mediums (movies, lectures, radio, etc.).

American Culture & Idioms (3 hrs) 
This course provides an introduction to idiomatic speech in American culture and the media. Students explore ways in which idioms are incorporated into daily speech through the use of text samples from newspapers and magazines as well as the required textbook.

GMAT Verbal and Writing (Pre-MBA only ) (3hrs)
This course is designed to prepare students for the verbal and writing portions of the GMAT. The course includes full-length sample tests, skill-building exercises, and strategies students need for higher scores.
