Talbott Library, part of Rider University Libraries, supports the music curriculum of Westminster Choir College of Rider University, located in Princeton, NJ. Talbott's collections comprise over 67,000 books, music scores and periodicals, approximately 5,400 choral music titles in performance quantities, a choral music reference collection of over 80,000 titles, and over 23,000 sound and video recordings. Additionally, exceptional holdings are found in the library's special collections.
Westminster Choir College, with its overarching unique choral emphasis, educates students at the undergraduate and graduate levels for careers as choral conductors, singers, pianists, organists, music educators, ministers of music, and arts administrators. In support of the curriculum, Talbott Library's score and sound recording collections cover all musical styles, genres, and periods at a basic level but are concentrated more heavily in the areas of choral, vocal, keyboard, and sacred music. Of note are collected works of many individual composers, monuments of music, an extensive piano pedagogy collection, instructional material for music education in primary and intermediate schools, and holdings both broad and deep in choral music, keyboard music, and hymnals. The Library collects multiple print editions of many music titles for comparison of editing practices and multiple recordings of many titles for comparison of performance practices.
Talbott Library shares in Rider University's integrated library system (Voyager). Over 90,000 titles at Talbott are represented in the online catalog and may be searched on the Web (http://voyager.rider.edu/vwebv/searchAdvanced). More than 5,000 of our choral music titles are also included in Musica, the international choral music database, whose full content can be searched at http://www.musicanet.org/. The search capabilities of Musica can also be limited to Talbott holdings in that database through the search form found at http://library.rider.edu/talbott/musica.
