Grades 3-8
July 22-26 and July 29-August 2
Two one-week camps
8:45 AM - 12:30 PM
New this year – Due to popular demand, Piano Camp will be offered two weeks in a row. Families can choose to sign up for one or two weeks.
Piano Camp is a great opportunity for children and pre-teens who enjoy playing the piano to spend one week focusing on their piano and musicianship skills while at the same time making new friends! During each week of Piano Camp, students will have the pleasure of playing ensemble repertoire for more than one pianist at one piano. At the beginning of the week, students will be assigned ensemble partners depending on their grade and level of advancement and appropriate repertoire will be selected for them to learn.
Piano Camp students will have private and small group lessons, as well as duet coachings with Conservatory faculty members. Campers will also enjoy specialty classes such as jazz piano, musicianship (including music theory, history, and composition) and Dalcroze eurhythmics. A mid-morning break time will allow the students to socialize and eat the snack that they have brought for the day. Campers will have the opportunity to play for one another in an informal performance class, a master class with Westminster Choir College faculty, and in the final camp recital.
Prerequisites
Students must have completed at least 2 years of piano lessons and must be entering grades 3 through 8 in the fall of 2013. Students will be contacted to schedule a placement hearing once they have registered.
Location
Piano Camp will be held on the Westminster Choir College campus in Princeton Hall. Directions will be sent in the confirmation packet.
Schedule
Piano Camp will meet Monday - Friday from 8:45 AM - 12:30 PM. On the final day, the concert will begin at 12:30 PM - campers should wear their Conservatory T-shirts!
