Camp Directors: Megan Hofreiter and Suzanne Lehrer
Grades 3 – 8
Three one-week camps (dates listed below)
8:45 AM – 12:30 PM
NEW this year
Due to popular demand, Piano Camp will be offered three weeks in a row this year! Piano Camp is a great opportunity for children and pre-teens to spend one week focusing on their piano and musicianship skills while at the same time making new friends! During weeks one and three of Piano Camp, students will have the pleasure of playing ensemble repertoire for more than one pianist at one piano. At the beginning of the week, students will be assigned ensemble partners depending on their grade and level of advancement and appropriate repertoire will be selected for them to learn. During week two, students will have the opportunity to focus on solo music and technique.
Conservatory faculty will teach private and small group lessons to piano camp students. Campers will also enjoy specialty classes such as jazz piano, musicianship (including music theory, history, and composition), and Dalcroze eurhythmics. New this year, during week three, students will have an art class during which a relationship will be made between the music they are playing and the period of art during which it was written. Art class will include an introduction to famous art works and artists as well as time to draw and paint.
A mid-morning break time will allow the students to socialize and eat the snack that they have brought for the day. Campers will have the opportunity to play for one another in an informal performance class, a master class with Westminster Choir College faculty, and in the final camp recital.
