for Violin, Cello, and Keyboard
Camp Director: Cecelia Reilly
Grades 1 – 3
July 21 – August 1 (Two-week camp)
9:00 AM – 4:00 PM (half-day options also available)
This camp is an exciting way for young students to be introduced to a fine selection of instruments. We offer a total immersion experience in violin, cello and keyboard. Students will have the opportunity to learn several pieces on their instrument, and find the gratification of being able to play real songs in just two weeks. In addition to their chosen primary instrument, students will enjoy a variety of classes including Dalcroze movement, stylized dance, chorus, tin whistle, and handbells. Students will be introduced to written musical notation through various musical games and activities. Students enrolled in the full-day camp will receive one 30-minute private lesson during the lunch time period. On the last day of camp, families and friends are invited to attend a final presentation. Parents will hear how much the students have learned in just two weeks. We look forward to meeting our new young musicians!

Students should not have any previous experience playing the instrument that they choose to try out. Students must be entering grades 1 through 3 in the fall of 2014.
There will be a break in both the morning and afternoon sessions. During this time the students will have a chance to go outside and stretch their limbs, socialize, and have a snack. A lunch hour is built into the schedule for the full-day students. Parents are asked to provide a snack, and water or juice to be enjoyed during these breaks, and a hearty lunch for the full-day students.
Instrument Rental Information
Students will be expected to rent a violin or cello for the camp. Information on instrument rentals will be included in the confirmation packet. For students choosing keyboard, the Conservatory will provide keyboards for students to play in class only. Students should make arrangements to have a piano or electric keyboard at home on which to practice.
