Camp Director: Nathan Brewer
Grades 9 – 12
August 3 – 14 (Monday through Friday)
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
“Nathan Brewer encourages and demands—exactly what budding actors need in order to have success in their local school theater programs during the school year. My son has thrived under Nathan’s tutelage for six consecutive summers, and he looks forward to his last summer at Westminster to prepare for college auditions.”
– Kathy D.
If Musical Theater is your passion, this camp will change your life. New York stage director Nathan Brewer returns to direct a thrilling production of LEADER OF THE PACK. Past productions have included HAIR, GODSPELL, RENT, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, and EDGES. In addition to casting, staging, choreographing, and performing this musical in only ten days, students will receive invaluable training in voice, dance, acting, and audition technique. Our recent graduates have gone on to major in Musical Theater, Acting, or Music at Ithaca College, Syracuse University, Montclair State University, Westminster Choir College, University of the Arts, Oberlin College, and Catholic University. We offer a safe environment in which students can take risks and learn from each other.
In preparation for the first day of camp, students will be asked to prepare at least two songs from the Musical Theater cannon for their class work. We recommend an upbeat and a ballad—ideally one of these will be contemporary, and the other will from the Golden Age. These songs should be performance-ready on the first day of camp. That means: lyrics memorized, music learned, and character developed. These songs should be age appropriate, and in the first person. The songs should be hole-punched and in a 3-ring binder.
Students should also be prepared to tell a story about themself. In theater, we are all storytellers. The can choose a story from their life—it can be funny, it can be personal, it can be special to them. The story should be at least one minute long, and preferably no longer than five minutes. They will share their story, much like a monologue, with the group on the first day of camp.
Students must be entering grades 9 through 12 in the fall of 2015. There are no audition requirements for acceptance into these camps. All students are welcome! Maximum enrollment is 30 students per camp.
High School Musical Theater Intensive will be held on the campus of Westminster Choir College in Princeton. Students will pack their lunch and snack.
