Get prepared for the first day of class.
All Music Theater majors need to have the proper shoes and equipment for dancing.
Students must bring all dance shoes to every class. Students will not be permitted to dance in socks or bare feet. Socks and bare feet are allowed only during warm-ups.
- Ladies must have both a jazz shoe and a character heel (2 ¾ or 3 inch)
- Men must have a jazz shoe
Proper dance attire is required, as it is important for the professor to see the lines of the body. Ladies in leotard (black) and tights or jazz pants, men in jazz pants (men must wear dance belt) are appropriate. White, black or gray tank or tee shirt is appropriate. If dance shorts are worn, please bring sweats for warm-up/floor work. In cold weather, please have sweats on hand to keep the body warm.
Also in your dance bag include a towel and fresh water, knee pads, band aids, wraps and any other accessories that you might need for class. Begin maintaining an appropriately stocked dance bag as part of your professional development. Below is a list of shoes that are required for the classes at Rider and the list of options.
The following stores carry a variety of styles of the shoes needed for music theater majors.
