Why Major in History at Rider University?

  • Innovative Program: Our Department offers courses in the history of the U.S., Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean. In addition to lecture courses, majors participate in seminars at the Freshman, Junior and Senior levels. Students can also explore history outside of the classroom through our internship program.
  • Dedicated Faculty: We are committed to excellence in teaching and research. Our faculty have won two Distinguished Teaching Awards, a Distinguished Service Award, and a Research Prize. We are also regularly recognized for Excellence in Advising.
  • Marketable Skills: Majoring in history prepares students for a variety of careers because of the analytical (critical thinking) and communication (written and oral) skills it fosters. Rider History graduates enter careers in fields such as education, law, government, business, foreign service, journalism, and public history.
