A Message from the Chair
Accounting Newsletter Issue - July 18, 2012

Dear Accounting Alumni and Friends,

Best wishes from your alma mater. The spring 2012 semester was busy and very successful for the Accounting department, and this issue brings you news of our activities, but allow me to share a few highlights.

As many of you may know, the College of Business Administration (CBA) and the Accounting Program are separately accredited by the global Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). This dual accreditation is held by less than 4 percent of universities and colleges worldwide. To maintain this accreditation, a program must be reviewed by the AACSB in the areas of strategic planning, faculty qualifications, interaction with the profession and assurance of learning every five years. We are pleased to announce that our most recent maintenance of accreditation visit took place in January of this year and both CBA and Accounting were awarded maintenance of accreditation.  We were also commended for many of our accomplishments.

Speaking of accomplishments, one measure of our success is the growth of the undergraduate and MAcc Accounting programs and student placements in co-op, internship and full-time positions. This academic year, we graduated 103 accounting majors and 46 MAcc students. Of the 103 undergraduate students, over 70 percent worked a paid co-op or internship experience. We appreciate the placement opportunities offered by accounting firms and other organizations. The placement results for this year’s graduates are included in this newsletter.

Another measure of our success is that Accounting faculty members continue to publish their research in global academic and professional journals and to integrate their research findings into their classrooms.  This newsletter also lists recent faculty publications.

On a different note, mark your calendars for a fun-filled evening with Rider Accounting alumni.  The Rider Accounting Advisory Council is hosting the Second Accounting Hall of Fame Dinner at Pines Manor in Edison, N.J., on November 8, 2012. Information and invitations to the event will be sent in early summer and we hope to see you at the event. Feel free to contact me for information about this event.

Also, read about the interesting career paths of two accounting alumni:  John Tracy ’87, the vice president & CFO for home business at Motorola in Horsham, Pa., and Michael Dill ’09, who is in medical device sales at Johnson & Johnson.

Finally, the high level of excellence in our programs would not be possible without the generous support of our alumni and friends. We sincerely appreciate your ongoing efforts to help us maintain the quality of reputation of our program through being involved with student organizations, guest lecturing in classes, recruiting our students and financial donations.

Drop us a line to let us know what you are doing. A great deal of our success depends on the support of our alumni and friends. Please contact me with any advice and input at oreillyallen@rider.edu. We hope you enjoy reading about the Accounting program.
