A Message from the Chair
Accounting Newsletter Issue - May 14, 2013

Dear Rider Alumni and Friends,

Greetings from your Accounting department! As you will find in this edition of Stay Connected, the past semester has been exciting and successful for us, so please allow me to share a few highlights.

This academic year we graduated 90 undergraduate Accounting majors and 50 master’s students. Of the 90 Accounting majors, over 60 percent had co-op and/or internship experience. Our full-time placement record and feedback from recruiters and employers attest to the quality of our students.

A major differentiator of our Accounting program is the variety of opportunities we provide our students for experiential learning. In addition to providing valuable work experience through co-ops and internships, the Department hosts numerous events to provide networking opportunities and our faculty frequently welcome guest lecturers. This semester, we hosted the IRS Adrian Project, the Beta Alpha Psi Induction Dinner and the Rider University Aspiring Accounting Professionals Program dinner.

Our faculty members continue to excel both in the classroom and through their research. Please check out the section that highlights faculty publications during the past year.

As for alumni, our graduates continue to make us proud, including Theresa Richardson ’96, who recently achieved partner at WithumSmith+Brown. You’ll read her story here, as well as an insightful Q&A with Steve Gerard ’84 and Neil Gerard ’89 on career paths.

As always, we appreciate the generous gifts of time and expertise from members of the Accounting Advisory Council (AAC), which hosted the second Accounting Hall of Fame gala on May 2 at Pines Manor in Edison, N.J. More than 170 alumni and friends celebrated the accomplishments of Sen. Peter Inverso ’60, Sherise Ritter ’84, Robert Schimek ’87, and the late Professor George Battista ’43.  A good time was had by all.

We sincerely appreciate your ongoing efforts to help us maintain the quality and reputation of our program through involvement with student organizations, guest lecturing in classes, student recruitment and financial donations. Please contact me at oreillyallen@rider.edu to discuss ways you can help us to further enhance the reputation of your alma mater.

Best wishes for a healthy and happy summer.
