Study abroad opportunities at Rider encompass a variety of program options, including academic, study, internships with local businesses, schools and government agencies as well as service-learning opportunities in the community.


As a Study Abroad Student, You Can:

  • Study Spanish and pursue Latin American studies in Argentina, Mexico or Peru
  • Learn first-hand about issues facing third world countries while doing service learning in Ghana
  • Experience how Europeans conduct business and perfect your French during a semester in Paris
  • Pursue voice, piano and composition study in Graz, Austria
  • Develop your vocal technique with master musicians in Italy

How Long Can I Study Abroad?

You can study abroad for a semester, a full year or a four-to six-week summer program. Rider faculty members also lead short-term programs lasting two to four weeks during the January intersession, spring break and summer.


Who Can Study Abroad and How Can I Apply?

Rider students with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher are encouraged to study abroad. Our programs are open to students in any major. Application forms are available at http://rider.studioabroad.com. An essay, recommendation letters and academic transcript are also required. Deadlines for application are October 1 (spring), March 1 (fall) and April 1 (summer).


What Program Options are Available?

Rider University Exchange Programs

Rider operates its own study abroad program with overseas universities, which also send their students to our New Jersey campuses.

These programs include:

  • American Business School in Paris, France (French, Business and Liberal Arts)
  • University of Graz, Austria (German, American Studies, Business, English, Law and International Relations)
  • University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz, Austria (German and Music)
  • Nebrija University in Madrid, Spain (Spanish, Hispanic Studies and International Business)
  • Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Quito, Ecuador and the Galapagos (Spanish, Liberal Arts and Sciences)
  • University of Alcala in Madrid, Spain (Spanish, GLS, Political Science, Education)

italicized courses are taught in English.

Faculty-Led Travel Projects

Rider faculty members pursue their passion and expertise by leading students on travel projects abroad that combine academics with travel. Students earn academic credit for these short-term trips during the January intersession, spring break and the summer. Examples include:

  • Community service-learning in Jamaica and the Dominican Republic
  • English tutoring in Fuzhou, China and El Escorial, Spain
  • Business and Science Tours in Galapagos, Ecuador
  • Global Encounters in Italy, Scandinavia and Spain
