Meals on Wheels of Mercer County provides thousands of meals each week to local residents
On Jan. 22, Congressman Andy Kim visited Rider University’s Daly Dining Hall, the preparation hub for Meals on Wheels of Mercer County.
Since 2018, Rider and Gourmet Dining, the University’s food service provider, have partnered with Meals on Wheels of Mercer County to provide thousands of meals each week to local residents.
“Meals on Wheels of Mercer County provides such a necessary service to our neighbors,” says Rider University President Gregory G. Dell’Omo, Ph.D. “We’re proud to support this important initiative, and grateful Congressman Kim could see firsthand how our staff at Rider University works in tandem with the Meals on Wheels volunteers. They are at the heart of the program, making sure hundreds of residents receive fresh, healthy meals every day.”
Meals on Wheels prepares and delivers dietary specific meals to homebound individuals who are unable to cook and/or shop for themselves. The majority of Meals on Wheels participants are at a critical point of food insecurity where, without the program, they may be forced to choose between food and other financial commitments.
