President

Rider University seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as its seventh President and invites nominations for and expressions of interest in the position. The next President will sustain and build upon a record of growth and innovation, promote the distinctive quality of its education, and develop strategies to meet the challenges the University and higher education face in the 21st century. The successful candidate will succeed Dr. Mordechai Rozanski, who will retire in July 2015 following 12 years of distinguished service to the University.

Rider University, which will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2015, is a vibrant, student-centered community of learners and scholars regionally recognized as a top-tier institution. With campuses located in Lawrenceville and Princeton, New Jersey, Rider is an independent, residential university with approximately 750 full-time faculty and staff, and 5,485 undergraduate, graduate, and non-traditional students. 

Rider is organized into four colleges - the College of Liberal Arts, Education, and Sciences, which includes the School of Education; the College of Business Administration; the Westminster College of the Arts, which is comprised of Westminster Choir College and the School of Fine and Performing Arts; and the College of Continuing Studies. The University offers 69 undergraduate programs in the fine and performing arts, humanities, sciences, social sciences, education and business, as well as 25 graduate programs in business, accounting, education, music, business communication, applied psychology and leadership. Rider is distinguished by the talent and dedication of its people, by the excellence of its academic programs, and by its teaching, scholarship, artistic expression, professional practice and service to the community. The University has benefited from strong financial management and significant investment in programs, facilities and faculty positions. Its programs are accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the AACSB, ACS, CACREP, NCATE, NASM and NASP. The University has focused on pursuing five strategic directions: strengthening student-centeredness; advancing intellectual engagement and leadership skills; enhancing connections among the liberal arts, education for the professions, and community; fostering diverse perspectives and social responsibility; and building resources for the future. Rider offers 20 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I sports (10 each for men and women) and is a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Association (MAAC) and Eastern Wrestling League (EWL).

Position and Qualifications. As the leader, external representative, and chief executive officer of Rider University, the President exercises broad responsibilities for all aspects of the academic, student, financial, fundraising and administrative dimensions of the institution. The President will provide critical leadership in advancing the excellence of Rider’s programs and services, sustaining Rider’s student-centered culture, and seeking the external gifts and other resources which support the level of excellence to which the University aspires. The President reports to and is supervised by Rider University’s Board of Trustees. 

The ideal candidate will have, among other qualities: outstanding leadership experience; the academic or organizational leadership background to lead an academic institution; the experience and skills to manage and guide a complex and dynamic university; strong communication skills; a strong record of financial management; demonstrated experience and leadership in fundraising; experience in Division I athletics; a commitment to innovation and creativity; a strong record of teambuilding at all levels; experience or knowledge of collective bargaining; a demonstrated record of building and maintaining an atmosphere of transparency and collegiality; a record of achievement in strengthening and infusing diversity in all dimensions of his or her current organization; and a record of development, participation and understanding of internationalization efforts. Additionally, this candidate will have the highest integrity; be able to develop and communicate a clear vision; have the ability to inspire others to enhance their contributions to Rider’s mission; and have a sense of humor.
